If it’s been a while since you’ve changed your filter (or even been in your basement or furnace room), do yourself a favor and put in a new one. Today. You’ll thank us later when you don’t need to call us out for service. We run countless service calls each year simply due to dirty filters that needed replaced.

My gas furnace suddenly stopped working, so I called CARE to get a tech out and find the problem. They sent Devin and he was great. He was very personable, and best of all, he asked that I watch him while he worked on my furnace, explaining step by step what he was doing and why. He went above and beyond any other tech I have ever had do work for me. Not to mention, he solved my problem in half and hour or less. CARE has a great asset in Devin and I will continue my association with them if I need any heating or cooling work.

Dry Indoor Winter Air

A common complaint we hear from many of our customers is that their house gets too dry in the winter. Sore throats, dry skin, and damage to furniture and wood floors are all problems our customers face due to dry indoor air. Fortunately, we have a solution – a whole home humidifier.

A whole home humidifier can be added to the duct system your furnace already uses. It adds moisture to the air that your furnace circulates throughout your house when it runs. The humidifier is controlled by what is called a humidistat … think of it kind of like a thermostat for your humidifier. Rather than responding to temperature, the humidistat responds to the relative humidity level in your home. Set the humidistat to a comfortable level and you’ll stay that way all winter long.

Description Of Work: Our furnace could have lasted another year or two but it was so rusted out we were beginning to worry about the quality of air we were breathing in our house. We have had a maintenance contract with CARE for 5 years and really our only choice to do the work. We got one other estimate and it wasn’t even close to CARE’s. We got a new furnace, A/C, media filter, and humidifer. We initially weren’t going to do the hot water tank but after shopping a bit we realized the quote they provided us was on par so we had that installed as well. Our salesperson was very knowledgeable and didn’t try to sell us what we didn’t want. The installers were professional, courteous, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Now we have piece of mind that we are breathing quality air in our house. Thank you CARE.

Christmas Tree Safety Tips

December is finally here, snow is in the forecast, and the holidays are upon us. It’s time for a lot of us to put up a Christmas tree and decorate it with all sorts of lights and ornaments. Christmas tree fires are not common, but we all still need to take proper care of them. Fire departments respond to an average of 210 structure fires caused by Christmas trees every year. Here are a few Christmas tree safety tips provided by the National Fire Protection Association.

When buying a fresh tree, choose one with fresh, green needles that don’t fall off when touched.
Make sure that your tree is at least three feet away from any heat source in your house, including radiators, heat vents, and lights.
Add water to the tree daily.
Replace any lights that are worn or have broken cords. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when stringing together multiple strands of lights.
Never use lit candles to decorate the tree.

Make sure you use these Christmas tree safety tips and dispose of your tree properly after the holiday – the City of Columbus traditionally picks up trees for free after the holiday, and many local yard waste sites will take them for free as well!

Cracked Heat Exchanger?

Carbon monoxide poisoning is of the greatest concern to us whenever we work on a furnace. Even if we aren’t the ones to service your furnace, we still want everyone in Central Ohio to be safe. This is why we offer a free second opinion service on broken heat exchangers.

A cracked heat exchanger.

Here’s the deal – If another company says the heat exchanger in your furnace is cracked, rusted, or broken in any way, CARE Heating and Cooling will come to your house at no charge to confirm the diagnosis. In many cases our technicians find that the other company’s diagnosis is wrong and the heat exchanger is perfectly fine. Sometimes we do find that the previous diagnosis was correct, and a new heat exchanger is needed before the furnace can operate safely. Either way, our second opinion service will give you the peace of mind that your family is safe.

Another reason we offer this service? Some companies in Central Ohio pay their service technicians a commission for selling a new furnace, giving them an incentive to condemn your equipment. No one in the service department of CARE Heating and Cooling receives any kind of commission or benefit from selling new equipment.

Description of Work: We had a new air conditioner installed.

Comments: The company responded promptly with a quote, followed up periodically with updates on the installation date, and then arrived promptly on the day of the installation. The installers were very friendly and explained any options we had regarding the air conditioner placement outside very clearly. They cleaned up the basement and outside area when they were finished. We have used CARE twice now for major replacements and would not use anyone else for our heating/air conditioning needs!
