Having Problems Remembering to Replace Your Furnace Filter? Some Ideas to Help …

March 25, 2011 | CARE Heating and Cooling

Everyone knows that replacing your furnace filter is important.  But with so much going on in our busy lives, sometimes it is hard to remember to do tedious home maintenance items like this one.  Here are some ideas to help you remember to replace you filter … and maybe a few other things around the house.

  • Use your thermostat. Most programmable thermostats have a feature that will remind you when you need to replace your filter.  Check out the user’s manual for your thermostat if you don’t know how to use it.
  • Set an alarm. Do you have a smartphone or a way to set a recurring alarm or alert on your phone?  Try setting one to repeat once a month and title it “replace filter”.
  • Mark your calendar. Most of us have calendars hanging in our kitchen or some other communal area in our house.  Try marking your calendar with a sticker, highlighter, or something else to catch your eye so you’ll remember to swap out that filter.
  • Get organized with GTD. If you’ve never heard of it before, GTD stands for Getting Things Done.  It is a work-life management system created by David Allen and laid out in his book called Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity.  If you want to learn more about it, try doing a few google searches or check out David Allen’s website.
